World Youth Day- A blessing from the Lord

4 August 2016

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. (Mt 5:7)The Year of Mercy coincides with the World Youth Day taken place in Poland. Sr. Rosario Tran and Sr. Teresa Francis Pham had the privilege of joining the pilgrimage “In the footsteps of St. John Paul II” organized by the Archdiocese of Brisbane. World Youth Day 2016This pilgrimage took about 22 days during which the pilgrims could have chances to absorb the Polish culture as well as cultivate a deeper relationship with God. In fact, we might even say that this pilgrimage started a few months ago with preparation sessions organized once a month for members getting to know one another. This was a good chance to allow members to ask questions, to clarify issues and doubts about the pilgrimage. The pilgrimage began on 14th July with 43 members coming from Brisbane, Rockhampton and Darwin. In this pilgrimage, the two young Sisters had an opportunity to see the marvelous, traditional churches and basilicas in Europe. They could ‘transport’ themselves to the prayerful chanting in the Mass and experience the devotion of a traditional Catholic country.  World Youth Day 2016Moreover, they could weep with the Poles as they witness the cruelty displayed by the notorious Concentration Camp in Auschwitz where millions of Jews were imprisoned, tortured and died during the Second World War. It was also a memorable experience for them when they were invitedto live in a Polish village named Zdzieszowice and stay with a lovely retired couple and their daughter, visit the village, see how they live and work, and join invarious activities in the parish. This is the place they would forever treasure the fond memory of the hospitality and kindness of the Polish people.

World Youth Day 2016After those precious experience, the young Sisters immerged themselves in a crowd of millions of young people around the world gathered in Krakow for the World Youth Day 2016. This brought them unforgettable moments : to mingle with millions of souls who yearn to search for the eternal Light and Love. They took this great chance to dip themselves in the stirring water of faith and renew their youthful spirit with God with great enthusiasm. There were certainly chances for them to hear Pope Francis, the father of faith, addressing them as other youths which inspired in their heart a deeper love for their life as consecrated people.
World Youth Day pilgrimage has been a great blessing for the two young Sisters. They have carried back with them experiences and friendships to share with all the community as well as those whom they are encountering with. Their grateful hearts receptive to all these blessings impels them to love and praise the Lord for His Goodness. May He continue to accompany them in their daily lives as they keep going on their own pilgrimage of consecrated life.
